Things to do in Costa Maya
The Mexican Caribbean is full of beauty, mysticism, magical and natural resources. Among them all is the dense jungle and charming little towns located in the state of Quintana Roo where the most famous destinations are Cancun and the Riviera Maya. Further south on the state, there’s another jewel that’s worth everyone’s attention: Mahahual.
But, where is it?
Mahahual is a small town located in the heart of Costa Maya, 145 kilometers away from Chetumal.
It has been developed as an alternative touristic center, where tourists from all over the world are welcomed, due to its cruise dock and the offered ecotouristic attractions, such as Banco Chinchorro, the second largest barrier reef in the world.
The beautiful town of Mahahual is known mostly due to its infrastructure ready to welcome hundreds of cruise ships that come from all over the world. But little do most people know that Mahahual is a town beyond its port and offers many fun activities during and off-cruise ship season.
Getting to Mahahual
Firstly it’s of easy access from the airport of Chetumal or even from Cancun airport, since it’s basically a straight line connecting all of the coastal cities of Quintana Roo.
There are also public transportation services to get there from the main bus stations, in Cancun, Chetumal, Tulum, Playa del Carmen and more.

No car? Don’t worry, almost everything is a walking distance away, so it’s pretty cheap to move around. There is also transportation services inside the city with all of the Mexican Caribbean charm.
